I grew up in Powell’s Books in the City of Books. I even liked to keep books in my crib, and would trail around to strangers and new friends, requesting they read them out loud for me.
I liked books so much I found employment for Farrar, Straus & Giroux, moving to Janklow & Nesbit in 2016.
At Janklow I fell in love with the book proposal, a specialized form of writing, like a sonnet, meant to persuade and charm and convince a publisher to give you lots of money (unlike a sonnet). And they are as flexible as a poem, but also have as many hidden rules and mores.
It is my real privilege to work with so many brilliant writers and thinkers, who ennoble my thought and challenge my preconceptions and are quite lovely people all around!
